What’s the story about?

Being nine months pregnant doesn’t stop P.J. Benson from trying to discover why her friend was killed. But someone thinks she has crucial evidence, and they’ll kill to get it.

This book wasn’t easy to write.

For one thing, I had to remember back way too many years to what it felt like to be pregnant. (I take that back, I do remember how miserable I felt that last month.) Back then, just like P.J. Benson, we lived in the country about 30 miles from the hospital. I’m sure there were midwives at the time, but I wasn’t aware of one. (If I had been, I would have used one. We barely made it to the hospital in time for my second baby’s birth.)

To write this book, I needed to learn what a midwife did.

So, was it luck or serendipity that brought me in contact with a neighbor whose daughter just happened to be a midwife? I don’t know, but she willingly showed me what a midwife brings to a birthing and gave me the information I needed.

Besides having P.J. give birth, I needed a mystery for SOMETHING TO CROW ABOUT (a murder and a villain). I decided on the crime when I attended  the Writers’ Police Academy. During one session, a video I watched showed how NARCAN can reverse the results of an opioid overdose (if given in time).

Aha, I had my crime.

Of course I had to involve crows and a Rhodesian Ridgeback in the story, and P.J. now has a 7-year-old stepson to complicate her life. Poor P.J. Having a baby is the least of her problems.

If you like a mixture of humor and suspense, take advantage of these three free days and download a copy of SOMETHING TO CROW ABOUT.
