I received an email the first week of September regarding the Anthropic Copyright Settlement. I have two books that have met the necessary requirement to be included. The primary requirement is to have an official copyright. I had more than two books used by Anthropic, but my publisher evidently didn’t actually file a copyright the others. The two that were approved were books I filed for (and paid for) a copyright. From what the email from Anthropic said, the class action suit is progressing and those with approved claims should receive compensation sometime soon. (No actual dates given for “soon.”)

I’m still not holding my breath on this. If I get some money, I will be very happy. But, if I don’t, my life will go on.

I’d push the idea aside until last week when I received the following in the mail.

The postcard is from Claimshero. I know Destiny Unknown is one of the books that has been accepted in the Anthropic Class Action suit. This postcard makes me think of Ambulance Chasers. Lawyers seeing an accident and being right there to file a lawsuit for the victim. And, of course, the lawyers take a percentage of the compensation. In Claimshero’s case, there is a 35% contingency fee (only if you win).  And that’s not unusual. The lawyers in the Anthropic Class Action Suit are doing the same thing. Their fee is taken from the settlement amount and what’s left is then divided up among the authors.

I guess if I hadn’t already participated in the Anthropic lawsuit, I’d be glad to receive this postcard. As it is, I found the postcard a turn-off. Just a little dirty.
