I hope everyone reading this either has a wonderful Thanksgiving tomorrow or had one (if you’re reading this after Thanksgiving Day). This is one holiday I really enjoy. Family and sometimes friends get together to share a meal and conversation. We split cooking responsibilities with family groups (married or dating) bringing appetizers, salad, vegetables, potatoes, and desserts. The host cooks the turkey and stuffing. This year our son is the host. My granddaughters are really raising the bar on what is brought to the meal. They’re forcing me to be more creative.

I haven’t done much writing this week, but I’m still getting those email solicitations from marketing “experts” who insist they can place my books better than what I have on Amazon, thus help me sell more books. It’s amazing. I’m getting one of those emails almost every day and sometimes two or three a day. Sorry folks, fool me once but not again. I almost fell for the scam a couple weeks ago. The person promising me wonderful sales found my weak spot. I HATE MARKETING. I would love someone to do that for me. She made it all sound so legit, but when she wanted payment made through PayPal and it was going to be in a foreign currency the red light went off. I called the company she said she represented, and surprise, surprise, they’d never heard of her and didn’t have a marketing department.

Shame on me for being so gullible. Over the years I’ve heard writers, agents, and editors say, unless your self-published book is selling thousands of copies a week, agents, marketing experts, and editors don’t come to you.

I know they’re right.

But I was hoping.

Anyway, I’m Thankful I didn’t lose any money. I hope others won’t get hooked by these scammers. It’s the old story, the best way to sell a lot of books is to write a book that a lot of people want to buy and read.
